1975 Gulfstar 43 MK II Trawler
This classic Gulfstar 43 MK II offers the combination that makes these boats so appealing: a substantial fiberglass hull, excellent interior volume, dual-station operation, and the comfortable accommodations needed for extended cruising or living aboard.
More importantly, this Gulfstar has benefited from significant recent investment. A documented 2023 yard period totaling approximately $23,000 addressed major mechanical, hull, steering, electronics, safety, and bottom-related items. Work included diesel engine service, fuel-injection work, bottom and blister repairs, new bottom paint, running-gear treatment, through-hull replacement, upper-helm replacement, Garmin electronics and radar installation, and completion of multiple survey-related items.
The vessel also features two relatively new Electro Scan sanitation treatment units, adding an important upgrade to the onboard waste-management system.
With her spacious layout, traditional trawler profile, generous accommodations, and extensive recent maintenance history, she represents an excellent opportunity for a buyer seeking a classic cruising platform with many major projects already addressed.
Whether the next owner is looking for a comfortable coastal cruiser, extended-stay boat, liveaboard or a classic trawler to continue improving, this Gulfstar delivers a tremendous amount of boat for the money.
Recent Major Service & Upgrades
Engines & Mechanical
Power is provided by twin Perkins 6-354 naturally aspirated diesel engines, a straightforward diesel package widely used in cruising and commercial applications.
Recent Diesel Service
Both engines received extensive service during the documented yard period. Work included replacement of all 12 fuel injectors, new injector return-line crush washers and injector-seat washers, valve adjustment on both engines, and replacement valve-cover gaskets. The port injection pump was removed, professionally rebuilt, and reinstalled. Both engines were subsequently test-run.
Current Hour-Meter Readings
Port: 619.2 hours
Starboard: 678.4 hours
These figures represent the hours currently displayed on the vessel's hour meters and are not being represented as independently verified lifetime engine hours.
The vessel utilizes conventional inboard shaft drive with twin 3-blade bronze propellers.
An exhaust manifold was removed and serviced with new gaskets, associated hoses reinstalled, coolant replaced, and the engine run to operating temperature with the exhaust leak corrected.

Cummins/Onan 8 kW diesel generator provides onboard AC power away from the dock.
Generator hour meter: 627.8 hours
Electrical systems include:
The vessel is equipped for extended cruising and living aboard, with onboard AC power available both at the dock and while away from shore power.
Accommodations
The 43 MK II's two-stateroom, two-head arrangement is one of the features that separates this classic trawler from many boats in her size and price range.
The full-beam aft accommodations provide the owner's private sleeping area with generous storage and convenient head access. Forward, a traditional V-berth provides separate accommodations for guests.
Between the staterooms is a spacious salon with excellent natural light and comfortable room for relaxing and entertaining. The arrangement provides the separation and privacy particularly desirable for extended cruising, visiting guests or liveaboard use.
Salon & Interior
The Gulfstar's traditional interior provides considerably more living space than many contemporary boats of similar length.
Large windows provide natural light throughout the salon, while warm wood cabinetry and joinery preserve the character of a classic cruising yacht.
The lower helm allows the vessel to be operated comfortably from inside during unfavorable weather, while the flybridge provides a second helm and excellent visibility when conditions permit.
Galley
The galley is designed for genuine cruising rather than simply weekend use and provides:
Combined with the vessel's approximately 130-gallon freshwater capacity, the arrangement lends itself well to extended time aboard.
The vessel is equipped with two relatively new Electro Scan waste-treatment systems, a significant upgrade for onboard sanitation and extended cruising.
Navigation & Electronics
The yard invoice documents removal of the older Furuno/Garmin displays and installation of the newer Garmin chartplotter, radar, weather antenna, transducer, associated cabling, brackets, and network components.
This provides the flexibility of operating from the protected lower station or enjoying the visibility of the flybridge.
Flybridge & Exterior
The flybridge provides an elevated second helm station with excellent visibility for docking, maneuvering and cruising.
The MK II arrangement also provides substantial exterior living space, including the aft/sundeck area, side-deck access and traditional trawler railings.
For buyers considering extended cruising or living aboard, the combination of interior and exterior usable space is one of this boat's biggest strengths.
